San Antonio — A quiet Sunday night on the South Side was abruptly interrupted when reports of gunfire drew a wave of police and emergency crews to the 1700 block of Southeast Military Drive. First responders arrived around 9:30 p.m., converging on the busy corridor as authorities began locking down the scene. As of late Sunday, officials had not released any information on possible injuries or arrests.
According to News 4 San Antonio, multiple units were dispatched to the area, and the station said it had requested additional details from San Antonio police. Photos published by the outlet show several emergency vehicles and officers clustered along the roadway.
“We have reached out to authorities for more information,” the outlet reported, noting that the San Antonio Police Department had not issued a public update as of its late-night post. With few official details available, both nearby residents and local media were left waiting for a more complete briefing from investigators.
A stretch with a recent history
The 1700 block sits along a stretch of Southeast Military Drive that has already been drawing concern over safety issues, including serious crashes and violent incidents. KSAT reported in March that the city had rolled out pedestrian improvements along the corridor and that council members were pushing for more enforcement. That same stretch was also the scene of a deadly shooting in a Walmart parking lot in August 2024. KSAT's earlier coverage of that case highlighted ongoing public safety concerns in the area.

News 4 San Antonio and other local outlets continued to monitor the situation late Sunday.
