The first public word came from News4SanAntonio, which posted a short breaking update and video saying a shooting had been reported near the intersection and that "crews are en route." The outlet posted the item at about 6:35 p.m. and updated it shortly afterward as reporters worked to gather more information.

San Antonio Police maintain a public calls-for-service dashboard that lists active incidents across the city. The dashboard showed its last update at 6:08 p.m. Sunday. According to the online listing from SAPD, officials had not yet posted a detailed incident entry tied specifically to the Waters Edge and Horal intersection at the time News4SanAntonio published its update.
West Side Has Seen Past Violence
The area around Waters Edge and Horal has dealt with gun violence before. In 2021, the nearby Gates of Capernum Apartments on Waters Edge Drive were the site of a fatal shooting, when a stray bullet killed a 15-year-old. The Express-News reported that police said suspects in that case fled toward Horal Drive.
