State health inspectors recently cited several LaPlace restaurants for critical health-code violations during visits between Feb. 21 and Monday, March 2, according to newly posted records. Kobe Sushi Belle Terre, La Carreta, Fiery Crab and a PJ’s Coffee location in LaPlace were all flagged in the latest round of checks, with issues that public health officials say can increase the risk of foodborne illness if not fixed quickly.
Inspection results and counts
As reported by L'Observateur, which obtained the information from the Louisiana Department of Health, Kobe Sushi Belle Terre in LaPlace was cited for four violations. La Carreta was written up for two violations. Fiery Crab logged two critical and two non-critical violations, while PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans at the LaPlace address was cited for one critical violation and three non-critical issues. The writeups are part of the entries the state adds to its public inspection dashboard.
Where the records come from
According to the Louisiana Department of Health's Retail Food Inspections page, the state maintains an inspections dashboard that lists a history of each establishment's reports. It is updated daily, with inspections posted after a seven-day delay. That dashboard serves as the official public record for inspection findings across Louisiana.
What the violations mean
The department distinguishes between critical and non-critical failures, noting that “critical violations, if left uncorrected, are more likely to directly contribute to food contamination or illness.” Many problems are addressed on the spot, while others require a corrective-action plan and a follow-up inspection, depending on how serious the issue is.
Where to check and who to call
Customers who want to see how a favorite spot is doing can review an establishment’s inspection history on the state dashboard or contact the businesses directly. Kobe Sushi lists its Belle Terre Boulevard address and phone number on its site, and La Carreta publishes its LaPlace location on its restaurant page. If you are worried about something you saw on a recent visit, you can call the restaurant or keep an eye on the state dashboard for any posted re-inspection updates.
