Houston police are searching for a suspect after a 50-year-old woman was found fatally shot inside an apartment on Laura Koppe Road on Monday. Neighbors told investigators they heard gunfire around 9 p.m. Sunday, and Houston Fire Department personnel discovered the unresponsive woman and pronounced her dead at the scene. The Homicide Division with the Houston Police Department is leading the investigation.
What investigators say
According to MyTexasDaily, officers found the victim inside an apartment at 2831 Laura Koppe Road on Monday, and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is handling notification of her identity. Neighbors said they saw a man believed to be the victim's boyfriend leaving the unit alone, and multiple witnesses reported hearing shots about 9 p.m. the night before. Investigators described a person of interest as a dark-skinned Black male about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a stocky build and short hair and cautioned the public not to approach him.
How to help investigators
HPD's Homicide Division asks anyone with information to call (713) 308-3600, according to the Houston Police Department. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or through its online tip portal. Detectives say video or other evidence from the area could be important to the investigation.
Neighborhood context
The shooting happened in a stretch of Laura Koppe Road that has prompted complaints from neighbors in recent weeks. Earlier this month, officers executed a warrant at an unlicensed after-hours club there after residents reported loud music, screeching tires and gunfire, the local station reported. That enforcement underscores ongoing concerns among residents about late-night activity and public safety in the corridor.
No arrests have been announced, and detectives continue to process the scene while canvassing for witnesses. The department again urged residents not to confront the person of interest and to let investigators handle tips and leads.
