A Jacksonville family of four is facing a long, painful recovery after a violent St. Johns County crash that landed all of them in different hospitals and spurred a fast-growing online fundraiser. Parents Cody and Rosie Mineur were airlifted to a Jacksonville trauma center, while their two- and five-year-old daughters were rushed to Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital with multiple bone fractures and internal injuries. A GoFundMe created by a family friend has since drawn hundreds of donations to help cover surgeries, lost income and childcare.
Crash and harrowing aftermath
As reported by News4JAX, the wreck happened Saturday in St. Johns County and left Cody and Rosie Mineur seriously injured. Both parents were flown to a Jacksonville trauma center, while their young daughters were taken to Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital. Family members told the station they were "so grateful" the four survived what one relative described as a devastating crash.
Fundraiser details
A GoFundMe organized by family friend Danielle Taylor went live March 16 to help cover surgeries, medical supplies and childcare, and has raised $33,410 of a $35,000 goal, according to GoFundMe. The fundraiser page notes the girls are expected to make a full recovery and will be discharged well before their parents. Organizers say donations will go toward urgent surgeries and weeks of physical therapy for Cody and Rosie, as well as short-term expenses while both are unable to work.
Injuries and outlook
News4JAX reports that Rosie suffered a below-the-knee amputation after she was struck by another vehicle while running to the interstate for help. She later underwent additional surgery to "clean up" the amputation area. According to the station, Cody needs surgery on his wrist and may face multiple operations to rebuild a severely damaged foot, followed by weeks of rehabilitation.
Community steps in
Both parents work for Hyatt hotels downtown, according to the fundraiser, and neighbors and co-workers have stepped up with meals, rides and childcare while the family remains hospitalized. Those wishing to support the Mineurs can find their campaign on GoFundMe.
