A Kensington family is begging for help after Mahia, their 9-month-old Yorkie, vanished from outside their home in late December. The loss has hit 4-year-old Dalex, who has autism, especially hard. His family says Mahia is not just a pet but his therapy dog and a constant source of comfort, and they have been searching for her ever since.

Surveillance Shows Stranger Loading Yorkie Into Car

The family shared home surveillance video that appears to show someone scooping up Mahia and placing her in a car on E. Indiana Street in Kensington. "He seen the dog walking right here, and just grabbed the dog and left, put it in his car and left," Serenity Rosario told 6abc. The family says Mahia slipped outside after Dalex accidentally opened the front door, and she was not wearing a collar when she disappeared.

Family Offers $2,500 Reward As Little Boy Cries Over Photos

Neighbors say the bond between Dalex and Mahia is unusually strong, and the boy has been crying while looking at pictures of his missing dog. NBC10 Philadelphia reports the family last saw Mahia on Dec. 22, 2025, and has since papered the neighborhood with flyers. They are offering a $2,500 reward, no questions asked, for Mahia's safe return.

Philadelphia police have confirmed they are investigating the disappearance but say the video is not clear enough to identify the person who took the dog. As reported by 6abc, the family says all they want is to bring Mahia back to Dalex and they are urging anyone with information to contact police or reach out to the family directly.
