Cloudy skies and a few spotty showers are sliding through Knoxville this morning, with rain most likely before midday and a high near 65. Roads may be slick for the morning commute, especially north of I-40, although most spots should only see light precipitation. The bigger story is a sharp warmup later in the week that will push temperatures well above normal.
Morning Showers And The Commute
Showers are most likely before noon, mainly north of Interstate 40, with about a 60% chance of measurable precipitation and new totals generally under a tenth of an inch. East winds will be light, so the main impact should be wet pavement and slower rush-hour travel, not flooding concerns. For the official timing and an hour-by-hour breakdown, see the National Weather Service.
Warming Trend Picks Up
The forecast turns sharply warmer after today, with highs climbing into the low 70s on Tuesday, upper 70s on Wednesday, and into the upper 70s to low 80s by Thursday and Friday (about 71° Tuesday, 77° Wednesday, 79° Thursday, and near 83° Friday). "Record high temperatures forecast for most areas on Thursday," the National Weather Service wrote, underscoring just how far above normal the late-week surge will be. That rapid rise means spring jackets can stay home for a few days, but it also raises the odds for more energetic storms if the atmosphere moistens later on.
Weekend Outlook And What To Watch
Rain chances increase again into the weekend, with a better shot at widespread showers and thunderstorms Saturday into Sunday; some storms could be strong if Gulf moisture returns. If you have outdoor plans, build in a backup and check forecasts closer to the day for any watches or warnings. We will post updates if any advisories are issued as conditions evolve.
