The oceanside Sand Castle estate on Spindrift Drive in La Jolla just took a hefty trim, with the Versailles-inspired clifftop compound cutting its asking price by $15.5 million to $92.5 million. Completed in 2015, the property pairs a main residence and separate guest house with private beach access and nearly 13,000 square feet of finished living space, keeping one of San Diego County’s splashiest listings in play as the ultra-luxury market keeps churning.
According to Zillow’s MLS snapshot, the ask dropped from $108 million to $92,500,000, with a February 12 price-change entry reflecting the $15.5 million adjustment and the listing still marked active at the new figure. The San Diego Business Journal has highlighted the estate as one of the region’s most closely watched trophy properties.
Inside the Sand Castle
The Sand Castle combines a roughly 9,565-square-foot main house and a 3,416-square-foot guest residence for about 13,000 total square feet. The MLS lists 10 bedrooms and about 17 bathrooms. Marketing materials call out a Thassos-tiled saltwater pool, fitness center and spa, elevated private beach access and a 162-foot sea wall, details that appear on the Compass listing and on the property’s official site, Sand Castle La Jolla.
Where It Fits In The Market
Even at $92.5 million, the estate sits well above nearly everything else in the county. San Diego’s record single-home sale climbed to roughly $50 million with a Del Mar deal late last year, so this listing is still playing in its own league. The property first hit the market in late 2024, and listing agents with the Dickinson Clark team told the San Diego Business Journal that La Jolla now has a shadow inventory of several ultra-high-end homes and that roughly 17 potential buyers have already expressed interest. With scarce top-tier inventory and ongoing showings, the brokers opted for a steep price reset rather than pulling the home off the market.
What’s Next
The Sand Castle was created and extensively remodeled by tech billionaire Darwin Deason, who died on December 2, 2025, according to his obituary in the Dallas Morning News. There is no public timetable from the family or estate, and the listing remains active while brokers continue to show the property to qualified buyers at the new price.
