A late-night crash on Pleasantville Road in Greenfield Township left one driver dead and another seriously hurt Thursday, turning a rural stretch of Fairfield County into an active investigation scene for troopers, medics and an air medical crew.
What Officials Said
According to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision happened shortly after 9 p.m. when an SUV heading east on Pleasantville Road crossed paths with a car in the westbound lane. The impact between the two vehicles was severe enough that the SUV driver was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries, ABC6/WSYX reported.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as 33-year-old Seth Peele of Lancaster, according to ABC6/WSYX. Troopers and crash investigators remained on Pleasantville Road overnight as crews worked the scene and documented evidence.
Pleasantville Road Has a Crash History
Pleasantville Road is not new to law enforcement or transportation officials keeping tabs on wrecks in Fairfield County. The Ohio Department of Transportation’s county high-crash map for Fairfield County lists Pleasantville Road among the county roads with repeated collisions recorded between 2020 and 2024, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The mapping highlights ongoing safety concerns along segments of the rural route.
Investigation Ongoing
State troopers say the crash remains under active investigation and they have not yet released information about possible contributing factors, per ABC6/WSYX. The Fairfield County coroner pronounced Peele deceased at the scene.
