A late-night attempt to pass on a rural stretch of State Road 60 ended in tragedy yesterday, leaving two drivers dead near Yeehaw Junction, according to state troopers.
What Troopers Reported
Florida Highway Patrol investigators said a 2014 Honda CR-V was traveling east on SR-60 just after 11:30 p.m. when the driver pulled into the westbound lane while trying to pass another vehicle. The SUV then collided head-on with a westbound 2003 Dodge Ram.
Troopers identified the eastbound driver as a 54-year-old man from Tampa and the westbound driver as a 52-year-old man from Greenacres City. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to WESH.

The crash took place on a rural portion of SR-60 where Mae Bass Road meets the state highway, an area that has seen multiple serious wrecks in recent years. FDOT project documents show the segment is under review for safety and roadway improvements. Troopers said the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation and did not immediately release additional details about the sequence of events. Emergency crews from Osceola County responded to the scene, and both drivers were pronounced dead there, according to WESH.
