Gunfire shattered a Friday afternoon at the Loyalty Inn on Lucky Penny Street off Freedom Drive in northwest Charlotte, where two people were shot, medics said. Both victims were taken to Atrium Health CMC. Paramedics described one person’s injuries as life threatening and the other’s as serious. Authorities said the investigation was active and no arrests had been reported.
According to WSOC, MEDIC crews transported the victims to the hospital and provided those injury updates. The station’s coverage also highlighted a social post from reporter Joe Bruno noting the shooting at the Loyalty Inn.
History Of Violence At The Motel
The Loyalty Inn and other motels on Lucky Penny Street have been the scene of repeated violence in recent years, a reality that undercuts the street’s optimistic name. In March 2025, two people were critically hurt in a shooting at the property, WCCB reported. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department opened a homicide investigation there in May 2025.
Major Michael Ford of CMPD told WCCB, “Any time that we have anything like this, it’s a tragedy. One life lost is too many.” Residents and nearby business owners have said repeated incidents at motels along the Freedom Drive corridor have harmed neighborhood safety and morale.
