
A Friday morning drive on Maluhia Road ended in tragedy when a northbound Honda sedan crossed the center line and slammed into a Toyota SUV, killing the Honda’s driver and shutting down the roadway near Kōloa while investigators worked the scene. A front-seat passenger in the Honda suffered serious injuries and was flown off-island to The Queen’s Medical Center. The Toyota’s driver reportedly walked away without injuries.

According to the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Honda was headed north on Maluhia Road when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and hit the Toyota SUV. The Honda’s driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The front-seat passenger was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center with serious injuries, while the Toyota’s driver reported no injuries.

Officers from the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section handled the on-scene investigation, a process that, according to past county releases, typically shuts down roadways for one to several hours while evidence is gathered.
