A Sunday afternoon on Brown Mountain Beach Road turned deadly when Burke County deputies found a man suffering from gunshot wounds near Morganton, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to 1547 Brown Mountain Beach Road at about 2 p.m. Once on scene, they discovered a male victim with gunshot injuries. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the property, authorities said.
In a public update, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office said Burke County EMS, the Burke County Rescue Squad and Oak Hill Fire and Rescue all responded to the scene and rendered aid. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation also came in to assist. Deputies said the investigation is active and ongoing.
