A routine weekday on San Antonio's West Side turned tense on Tuesday afternoon when two armed men in their 20s bolted from a Texas Anti-Gang Unit and set off an evacuation at the Family Dollar in the 8700 block of Marbach Road, according to police. Officers said one man was quickly detained and found carrying a weapon, while the other slipped into the store still armed, prompting employees and customers to clear out.
The confrontation started when the Texas Anti-Gang Unit tried to make a pedestrian stop around 4 p.m. on March 3 in the same stretch of Marbach, KENS5 reported. Investigators said the two men took off instead of complying. One was taken into custody shortly after, while the second man ran into the Family Dollar with a firearm, triggering the evacuation and ending with his arrest inside, per the police account.

The Family Dollar incident is the latest in a run of violent episodes along this busy corridor. In recent months, the area has seen everything from a Jan. 1 armed robbery at a nearby Dollar Tree to a June 2025 shooting that left two people hurt.
