A 14-year-old boy was critically wounded late Sunday night in a shooting along the 3300 block of Aldine Street in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital by a private vehicle and remains in critical condition as investigators continue to work the case.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the shooting happened at about 11:07 p.m., and investigators recovered five spent shell casings and a firearm at the scene. Police told the station that a person of interest was taken into custody and that the probe is ongoing.
Police and Citywide Data
The Mayfair shooting unfolded during a weekend that saw several other incidents across the city. As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, police crime statistics showed 71 shooting victims year-to-date through Saturday, compared with 149 at the same point last year. Official figures and an interactive crime map are available on the Philadelphia Police Department's crime-data portal.
Mayfair Context
Mayfair has seen other serious incidents in recent years. Coverage of a fatal neighborhood shooting and subsequent arrest in June 2024 underscored how disputes in parts of Northeast Philadelphia have at times escalated to violence.
Police have asked anyone with information about Sunday night's shooting to call the department's tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or to dial 911 in an emergency, the Philadelphia Police Department says. Authorities said they expect to release additional details as the investigation continues.
