
In a terrifying early morning scene in northwest Miami, a driver managed to crawl out of a burning car after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday, surviving with serious burns as the vehicle went up in flames. Witnesses said the man escaped the wreck while parts of his clothing were on fire, and bystanders rushed in to try to help before firefighters took over.
Responders On The Scene Before Dawn
According to CBS Miami, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were called out just before 3 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash near Northwest 14th Avenue and Northwest 54th Street. Officials said the vehicle may have struck a pole and then caught fire. Firefighters moved in to knock down the flames while the intersection was shut down and investigators started working the scene.
Witness: Driver Crawled Out With Clothes On Fire
Local resident Diego Gomez told CBS Miami he saw the driver crawling out of the wreckage "with his clothes on fire." Gomez said flames stretched alongside the vehicle as it rolled, and that bystanders tried to help the man until firefighters arrived.
Victim Rushed To Ryder Trauma
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the driver was taken to Ryder Trauma with burns over 15% of his body and was listed in serious but stable condition, according to CBS Miami. The Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial is a Level I trauma and burn center on the Jackson campus that provides specialized resuscitation and burn care for severe injuries.
Road Shut Down As Police Investigate
The intersection stayed closed for hours while investigators documented the crash site, and drivers were urged to steer clear of the area. The Miami Police Department is leading the investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact authorities.
