A late-night run to the hospital turned into a double emergency in Old East Dallas yesterday, after police say a man already suffering from a gunshot wound to the head was found injured inside a wrecked car near Interstate 30 and Winslow Avenue.
According to officers at the scene, a woman told police she had been trying to rush the wounded man to a nearby hospital when she lost control of the vehicle shortly before midnight. The car crashed near the I-30 and Winslow area, leaving both occupants hurt as first responders from Dallas Fire-Rescue and police moved in to secure the scene and start sorting out how the shooting and crash fit together.
FOX 4 reports that officers were initially called out for a single-vehicle wreck near the same intersection shortly before midnight. When they arrived, they found the man and woman inside the crashed vehicle. Preliminary accounts indicate the woman told investigators the man had been involved in a shootout at another, undisclosed location before the crash and that he had been shot in the head. Police have not yet identified either person or revealed where the earlier gunfire took place, and the case remains under active investigation.
Old East Dallas Has Seen Similar Violence
The stretch of I-30 around the Winslow exit is no stranger to serious violence. It was the site of a fatal road-rage shooting in March 2023, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. That recent history highlights just how tough it can be for investigators when bullets start flying on a fast-moving highway and the fallout spills into the surrounding neighborhoods.

Dallas police say no charges have been filed at this point and the conditions of the man and woman have not been released, according to FOX 4.
