An overnight crash on Statesville Road in north Charlotte left one person dead and two others seriously hurt early Wednesday, shutting down part of the busy corridor. The collision happened around midnight on March 18 near Nevin Glen Road and drew a large emergency response. Southbound lanes were blocked while investigators worked the scene, backing up traffic through the surrounding neighborhood.
Officials' account
As reported by WCNC Charlotte, Medic confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene and two people were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. Crews stayed on site into the morning while investigators worked to sort out what led up to the crash.
Road closures and emergency response
According to WCNC, southbound lanes of Statesville Road were closed during the investigation and later reopened after authorities cleared the scene. Fire and EMS crews treated the injured and removed debris from the roadway while traffic stacked up behind the closure.
A corridor with a history
Statesville Road and nearby Old Statesville Road have seen a string of serious collisions in recent years. WBTV covered a separate fatal crash involving multiple people there in April 2025. Local advocates and officials have been pushing for traffic-calming measures on north Charlotte corridors, and town halls on safety have been held in recent months.

Authorities had not released the identity of the person who died or any details about what caused the crash as of Wednesday morning. Investigators continued examining the scene into daylight hours.
