A fierce two-alarm blaze tore through a Bedford-Stuyvesant home early Saturday, flooding Halsey Street with fire trucks and keeping FDNY crews on the scene well into the morning. Officials said everyone living in the building got out without injury as firefighters moved quickly to contain the flames.
According to News 12 New York, responders were called to 251 Halsey St. just after 12:30 a.m. Investigators told reporters the fire started on the second floor, escalated to a two-alarm response in short order, and that the cause is still under investigation.
News 12 New York reported that the FDNY confirmed there were no injuries. Roughly 141 firefighters and EMS personnel were assigned to the scene, and crews remained in place for several hours to fully knock down hot spots and secure the structure.
Halsey Street Fire History
This block of Halsey Street has seen serious fire activity before. A two-alarm fire on July 5, 2025, at 559 Halsey brought out more than 100 firefighters and left several households displaced, according to Brooklyn Paper. City records cited in that report show the Department of Buildings later issued vacate orders for badly damaged properties after that blaze.

FDNY fire marshals are expected to examine the scene to determine how Saturday’s fire started and to help decide whether the building can still be safely occupied. After an earlier Halsey Street fire, the American Red Cross assisted 10 residents, Brooklyn Eagle reported, and neighbors who now find themselves in need of help are encouraged to contact 311 or reach out directly to the Red Cross for information on emergency housing and other support.
