A homicide investigation is underway in the southwest Las Vegas valley after police converged on a residential block Thursday evening and kept the area sealed off late into the night.
Officers were called to the 8200 block of Cupertino Heights Way, where Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives focused on a home along the street and began a lengthy evidence search. Police have not released details about the victim or any possible suspect while they continue to process the scene.
According to 8 News Now, Metro investigators confirmed they were handling the case and said additional information would be held back while detectives worked. The outlet reported that police were expected to brief the media Thursday night.
Police Response and Where to Call
The LVMPD Homicide Section is leading the case. The department lists its Homicide line as (702) 828-3521 and [email protected] for anyone who may have information, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Detectives also urged residents to steer clear of the immediate area while they collected evidence and canvassed for witnesses.
Mountains Edge Back in the Spotlight
The scene sits within the Mountains Edge area of the southwest valley, a neighborhood that has already drawn heavy police attention this year. Other recent homicides in the broader southwest have brought homicide detectives back to the area several times. In February, for example, FOX5 reported on a separate homicide investigation in another nearby neighborhood.
How Neighbors Can Help Investigators
Police said the scene remained active as evidence collection continued and again asked neighbors to avoid the block while detectives worked.
Anyone who was near the 8200 block of Cupertino Heights Way on Thursday evening, or who has security camera footage from the area, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at (702) 385-5555 or submit a tip online, according to Crime Stoppers of Nevada.
