The Munch Factory, the modern Creole restaurant run by chef Jordan Ruiz and his wife, Alexis, has officially landed in Mid-City on Bienville Street. The move takes the spot out of its quieter Gentilly foothold and into a larger, more visible address that adds a full bar and a roomy covered patio. Longtime staples, from dark-roux gumbo to bread pudding, now have a more central stage built for weekday lunch traffic and private events.
Mid-City Move Puts Munch Factory on Bienville
The Ruizes have relocated the Munch Factory to 4141 Bienville Street, taking over the former Frey Smoked Meat Co. space and expanding their footprint in the process. Compared with the restaurant’s recent clubhouse setting, the Bienville location offers more daylight, parking, and casual street activity. The shift is meant to put the kitchen where neighborhood diners and visitors can spot it more easily, according to Eater New Orleans.
Comfort-Heavy Menu With a Modern Twist
The Munch Factory leans into modern comfort food, with a menu that includes dark-roux gumbo, Bayou Nachos topped with roast-beef debris, the Backyard Burger, and Blackened Fish served over fried grit cakes, along with house desserts like Key Lime Pie. The restaurant’s online menu and ordering page list those dishes and show midday service during the week. For current offerings and hours, see The Munch Factory.
Fresh Design, Private Events, and a Supper Club Plan
Inside, the space has been reworked with dark green tile, coral-pink walls, and wall art by Ayo Scott, giving the dining room a bright neighborhood energy. Owners told local reporters they have temporarily skipped a set dinner schedule so they can stay flexible for catering and private events, and they are tentatively planning a periodic supper club, according to NOLA.com. Those decisions are intended to keep the kitchen nimble while the team settles into the new venue.
Gentilly Roots and a Citywide Footprint
The Munch Factory started as a small Gentilly operation in 2011 and has shifted locations over the years as its following grew, according to Eater New Orleans. The restaurant also maintains an outpost in Concourse C at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, per the airport’s vendor directory. It wrapped up its run as the clubhouse vendor at Joseph M. Bartholomew Municipal Golf Course late last year, a clubhouse vendor change Hoodline covered, and permits for the new Bienville address surfaced in local filings last fall, as reported by What Now New Orleans.
The Mid-City location is open for lunch most days and lists (504) 264-7621 for orders, catering, and private-event inquiries. The team is easing into the new schedule, so anyone aiming for regular evening service should check hours ahead of time. See The Munch Factory for the latest hours and to book catering.
