An early morning call to Columbus police turned into a homicide investigation Wednesday after officers found a man shot to death inside a business on the city’s south side, authorities said.
Scene and Response
Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Lockbourne Road around 7:30 a.m., where a Columbus Division of Police spokesman told ABC6 that a male victim had been shot inside a business. Police sealed off the area while detectives processed the scene, but the spokesman said it was still unclear what led up to the shooting and that there was no immediate information on suspects or a possible motive.
Investigation Steps
Columbus police have not released the name of the business or any details about potential arrests, and the case remains an active investigation. In earlier press releases about other shootings along the Lockbourne Road corridor, the Columbus Division of Police has listed contact points for tips, including its Felony Assault Unit and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Lockbourne Road's Recent History
The same stretch of Lockbourne Road has been the backdrop for several violent incidents in recent years, a pattern that has drawn repeated attention from local media and law enforcement. Coverage of a May 2025 shooting near Smith Road and Lockbourne Road, where detectives also appealed to the public for tips, highlighted community worries about recurring daytime violence on the south side, as reported in a critical Smith Road shooting story.
Authorities say more information will be released as the investigation moves forward, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward. ABC6 has noted that coverage of the case will be updated as new details emerge. Tipsters can contact Columbus police or reach out to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
