Friday, March 27, 2026, starts off calm and comfy in Nashville, with mostly clear skies and mid 60s on the thermometer. That mellow setup will not stick around. A cold front is on the way later this morning that will flip the switch to rain and send temperatures sliding through the afternoon.
Afternoon Showers, Fast-Falling Temps
Forecasters expect showers to start popping up after about 11 a.m. Friday, just after we briefly top out near 74°F. Once the front moves through, temperatures will drop quickly into the upper 50s for the afternoon.
Winds out of the west-northwest at 5 to 15 mph will swing around to the north and turn gusty, with gusts up to 25 mph possible, especially when showers are most active. Most spots around the area should only see light rain, generally under a tenth of an inch, while locations along and north of I-40 could pick up as much as a quarter of an inch of rain, according to NWS Nashville.
Weekend Outlook And Fire Risk
Behind the front, Saturday turns dry and cooler with sunshine and a high near 61°F. Saturday morning will feel very different from Friday, with lows dropping into the 30s. On the Cumberland Plateau, temperatures could dip below freezing early Saturday.
Forecasters are also flagging a limited fire-weather concern on Saturday, especially south of I-40. Low humidity and gusty winds could combine with already dry fuels to make outdoor burning more risky than usual. If you were planning to burn brush or do other open burning, it is a good idea to scratch that from the weekend list and check the latest detailed discussion from the National Weather Service.
Looking Ahead
Temperatures bounce back early next week. Highs reach into the upper 70s on Monday, then climb into the 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a medium chance of showers and thunderstorms around the middle of the week, so it is worth keeping an eye on official updates from the National Weather Service before locking in outdoor plans.
