Nino Salvaggio is about to become part of daily campus life at Schoolcraft College, with a 48,100-square-foot specialty marketplace set to open next Wednesday on the north edge of campus along the busy Haggerty Road corridor. The family-owned chain says the Livonia location will pack in a full butcher, bakery, cafe, prepared-food counters, floral and grocery departments, plus a curated selection of wine and beer. Company leaders say the store will create more than 200 jobs and double as a hands-on training ground for culinary and supply-chain students.
What shoppers will find
Shoppers can expect the high-end staples Nino Salvaggio regulars already know: in-store prepared foods, specialty produce, a full line of meats, a bakery and a cafe. According to Nino Salvaggio, the Livonia market will also feature a curated wine and beer assortment along with floral and catering services. The company says the store will join its existing locations in Bloomfield Township, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores and Troy.
A campus partnership for students
Schoolcraft College says the market is rising in the north commuter lot next to the Vistatech Center, intentionally placed to function as a real-world lab for programs such as Culinary Arts and Supply Chain Management. "Having a Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace right here on campus will give all of our students real-world experience that will enhance their education," Schoolcraft College said in a news post. The college's announcement also notes the project was financed by Comerica Bank and explains that the marketplace will be woven into workforce-training classes.
Jobs and hiring
The company has said the project will generate more than 200 jobs across departments that range from produce and bakery to management. ClickOnDetroit reported that the chain was actively recruiting roughly 150 workers and holding on-the-spot interviews in Livonia earlier this month. Applicants can also apply online through the Nino Salvaggio careers portal.
Opening day and hours
The store is scheduled to open to the public at 8 a.m. next Wednesday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Officials say some service counters will open in stages while staff finishes training and stocking, so early shoppers can expect a gradual rollout before the store settles into regular Nino Salvaggio hours.

The new market plugs into a heavily trafficked retail strip along Haggerty Road and gives Schoolcraft students a rare on-campus setup that blends classroom work with day-to-day operations in hospitality, supply-chain and business coursework.
