A late-night crash on North Central Expressway in north Dallas left a child dead after a vehicle slammed into a wall last Saturday, police said. The wreck happened in the 13700 block of the highway, near Spring Valley Road.
Crash details
According to the Houston Chronicle, officers arrived shortly after 10 p.m. and a preliminary investigation indicated the car had struck a wall. The driver and a child were taken to a nearby hospital, where the child later died. Authorities have not released the child's name or age.
The crash shut down multiple lanes for hours overnight, snarling traffic along the busy corridor. Texas Department of Transportation cameras were still showing backups in the area the following morning.
A dangerous stretch
U.S. 75, known locally as North Central Expressway, is a high-speed corridor that has seen several serious and deadly crashes in recent years. As reported by NBC DFW, city and state officials have responded by lowering speed limits in some sections and increasing scrutiny after investigations tied extreme speeds to many of the wrecks.
Investigation continues
Dallas police told the Houston Chronicle that the crash remains under investigation and that they have not yet released details on what caused the vehicle to hit the wall. Authorities have also not provided an update on the driver's condition. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Dallas police.
