A weekend house fire in Aurora’s 2200 block of N. Lansing Street sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries and forced two residents out of their home, officials said. Crews from Aurora’s fire and police departments quickly brought the blaze under control, and the American Red Cross was called in to help the people who were displaced.
Search Crews Find No Additional Victims
Aurora Fire Rescue and Aurora police conducted both primary and secondary searches of the home and reported those sweeps were “complete and negative,” meaning no one else was found inside. Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and two residents were displaced by the fire. The agency said the blaze was under control and that its origin is under investigation, according to Aurora Fire Rescue.
Red Cross Called To Help Displaced Residents
The American Red Cross of the Mile High Area is typically brought in by local fire departments to provide immediate relief such as short-term housing, casework and other recovery support for people affected by residential fires. That response model was outlined in a previous Aurora-area press release after an apartment fire, which described how volunteers and case managers coordinate shelter and basic needs for residents who cannot return home, as noted by the American Red Cross of Colorado.
Aurora Fire Rescue Response In Perspective
Aurora Fire Rescue responds to thousands of emergencies each year. In its 2023 annual report, the department recorded 1,263 total fires and nearly 38,000 EMS calls while operating 17 fire stations across the city. Those figures highlight how often local crews are called on to put out fires and provide immediate help to residents in crisis, according to Aurora Fire Rescue’s 2023 annual report.
Investigation Underway
Aurora Fire Rescue said investigators remained on scene as officials worked to determine the fire’s origin and cause. Authorities did not immediately release more information about the victims or the extent of the damage, and the department said updates will be shared as they become available.
