What started as a late-night argument outside Lefty’s bar on Pittsburgh’s North Side turned into gunfire early Monday, rattling residents and leaving a passing vehicle riddled with bullets. Police said the shots rang out in the pre-dawn hours on Western Avenue, but no injuries were reported and a suspect was taken into custody.
Police say argument spilled into the street before shots were fired
Public safety officials told WPXI the altercation broke out outside Lefty’s around 2:30 a.m. and escalated when a man pulled a gun and fired at a car driving along nearby Galveston Avenue. The vehicle was hit several times, but police said no one inside was hurt. A suspect was arrested at the scene, and officials described the investigation as ongoing, with no further details released so far.
Lefty’s location and nuisance bar scrutiny

Neighbors say they heard a rapid burst of gunfire
Within minutes of the incident, nearby residents were posting to neighborhood message boards, describing what sounded like a dozen or more rapid gunshots and a swarm of police vehicles converging on the blocks around Lefty’s. Those real-time accounts offered a snapshot of the chaos while officers were still taping off the area and interviewing witnesses. Some of those firsthand reports were shared on Reddit.
