San Antonio shoppers are about to get a new reason to linger at North Star Mall: an all-you-can-eat wagyu BBQ spot that has already blown up on social media in other cities. The company behind the concept says the high-end, high-volume beef operation is headed for the mall, promising theatrical service and big portions, although the official opening date is still listed only as "coming soon."
According to a company announcement, Chubby Cattle has tagged a new BBQ location for 7400 San Pedro Ave inside North Star Mall. The San Antonio project recently appeared on the brand's locations page alongside other Texas entries, signaling a targeted push into the state and backing up local chatter that the deal was already in motion.
What Chubby Cattle Will Bring
The restaurant will use a tiered all-you-can-eat system - Silver, Gold and Diamond - with the Gold level featuring upscale bites like foie gras nigiri and scallop sashimi crowned with caviar, as outlined by CultureMap San Antonio. At many locations, Chubby Cattle leans hard into spectacle, outfitting dining rooms with robot servers, conveyor belts and projected shows that turn dinner into a kind of wagyu variety act. Eater LA has even dubbed the chain the "Costco of Wagyu" for its bulk approach to sourcing A5 beef.
Diners can expect a 90-minute seating window, membership perks and the usual spread of sides, sushi and broths to back up the tabletop grills. The formula has generated lines at the brand's other U.S. spots, and San Antonio is slated to get the same all-in approach.
Why North Star
The San Antonio expansion lands as Chubby Cattle keeps building out its national footprint, with the Houston Chronicle noting a broader push into Texas markets. North Star Mall, meanwhile, has been beefing up its sit-down restaurant roster to drive traffic beyond basic errands. A commercial post tied to the lease suggests local brokers helped lock in the deal, according to a project update from URBANLIME Real Estate, giving the mall another experience-heavy tenant as it refreshes its mix.
For now, Chubby Cattle lists the North Star Mall restaurant as "Coming Soon" on its project page, with reservations still closed. The company site remains the go-to spot for updates on the opening timeline and membership sign-ups. Until those doors actually swing open, San Antonio diners can only watch and wait for the same tiered A5 wagyu feasts and tech-forward service that have built buzz at the brand's existing locations.
