A quiet stretch of Northeast D.C. turned into a police lockdown Friday as officers moved in on a barricade situation in the 1800 block of Providence Street NE, setting up a perimeter and blocking nearby streets while they tried to get things under control.
Police kept details close while they secured the area, but the scene was hard to miss: tactical units concentrated on the block, cruisers sealing off the immediate surroundings, and officials telling everyone to stay away until further notice.
According to DC News Now, the Metropolitan Police Department said officers were on scene in the 1800 block of Providence Street NE and urged people to steer clear. MPD also told the outlet its Emergency Response Team was on the way to assist with tactical resources and negotiators.
