A sweeping Cleveland Division of Police investigation has pulled in 33 suspects from across the city, nearby suburbs and as far away as Dayton, officials said Thursday. The coordinated effort, run through a task force known as Operation Smoke & Mirrors, resulted in a Cuyahoga County grand jury indictment of 40 people, with seven of them still believed to be on the run. Officers also seized multiple firearms along with significant stashes of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine and MDMA.
As detailed by Cleveland.com, detectives say they recovered roughly 250 grams of methamphetamine, about 250 grams of fentanyl, 252 grams of cocaine and around 50 grams of MDMA during searches tied to the investigation. Police said teams carried out arrests throughout Cleveland and surrounding counties and recovered several firearms during the operations.
Mayor Justin Bibb told Cleveland.com that the work "underscores collaboration and intelligence-driven policing," while Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Mike O'Malley told the outlet that the sweeps removed "dope dealers from the streets." Investigators described the crackdown as an intelligence-driven, multi-jurisdictional effort coordinated by specialized units.

The Cartel Gang Narcotics & Laundering Task Force brings together local investigators and federal partners to go after trafficking networks that cross city and state borders.
