The Florida Panthers have tapped veteran product-and-hospitality executive Michael White as their new president of business operations, putting him in charge of the club’s off-ice business just as the team heads toward the playoffs. Announced Tuesday, the move hands White day-to-day oversight of the franchise’s venues and commercial operations, succeeding Matthew Caldwell following his departure last year. It also lands at a moment when season-ticket demand remains strong and the development clock is ticking on the land surrounding Amerant Bank Arena.
White is set to be introduced at a news conference at Amerant Bank Arena before the Panthers’ home game against the Ottawa Senators on March 31, and he told staff he and his family are “beyond excited” to join the club. As reported by the Miami Herald, ownership said the hire followed a national search and is intended to blend hospitality with new technology for fans.
According to the AP, the Panthers said White will oversee “all business aspects” of Amerant Bank Arena, the Baptist Health IcePlex, Panthers IceDen and the War Memorial Auditorium. Team ownership praised his track record in consumer experience and product development, with Michael Viola calling White “the right fit to lead the organization into continued success.”
White arrives in Sunrise after serving as chief product officer at Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous-vehicle unit, and holding senior leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company, experience the club has signaled it values for building partnerships and sharpening guest services. The Miami Herald also detailed how the organization faces a lengthy season-ticket waiting list and broader venue development plans that the new business president is expected to help shepherd.
What the Hire Means for Arena Plans
The Panthers have until the fall of 2028 to present development proposals for land around Amerant Bank Arena, a hard deadline that effectively makes White a central player in talks with Broward County officials and potential developers. According to the AP, ownership has signaled it expects White’s blend of hospitality and technology experience to influence any mixed-use plans and the arena’s long-term revenue strategy.
What Fans Can Expect
Team leaders say White will start with a listening tour inside the organization before rolling out any major initiatives, so fans should expect steady, incremental upgrades to hospitality and digital services rather than overnight transformation. For now, the hire underscores a broader trend in pro sports: franchises bringing in tech-savvy executives to turn arenas into year-round business platforms, not just game-night venues.
