An early morning shooting call turned a stretch of Northeast Sandy Boulevard into a taped-off crime scene Thursday, as Portland police shut down traffic near Northeast 113th Avenue and searched the area for hours. Officers were sent to a reported shooting, and by sunrise the road was still closed while investigators combed the scene. As of Thursday morning, authorities had not said whether anyone was hurt or if any suspects were in custody.
According to KATU, dispatch records show a call coming in at about 2:46 a.m. Broadcastify scanner traffic indicated the report involved the Horseshoe Inn Motel near NE 113th Avenue. A KATU photographer at the scene reported hearing loud yells and watching officers search the area while Sandy Boulevard stayed blocked off behind police tape.
Earlier motel shooting this winter
The Horseshoe Inn has already been on law enforcement’s radar this year. In February, a late-night shooting at the same motel injured two people and led to multiple arrests, according to a report on gunfire at the Horseshoe Inn. The motel’s own website lists its address as 11324 NE Sandy Blvd, which lines up with the intersection cited in Thursday’s dispatch logs.
What police are saying and next steps
Portland police had not released a formal briefing on the latest call as of Thursday morning. KATU noted in an editor’s note that scanner traffic is preliminary and can change as investigations develop. Officers and investigators remained at the scene into the morning, and the Portland Police Bureau lists contact information for tips and non-emergency reporting on its website.
