Northbound I-35 through Dallas’ Stemmons Corridor turned into a crime-scene-style bottleneck this morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed near Continental Avenue, forcing traffic off the freeway and grinding the commute to a crawl.
Dallas County Sheriff’s traffic deputies shut down northbound lanes and funneled drivers to the Continental exit while they investigated the deadly collision. The crash left one person dead and backed up traffic through one of the city’s busiest stretches of interstate.
According to a post from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and the driver cooperated with investigators. Deputies said criminal charges were not pending at the time of the alert. The agency advised motorists to use the Continental Avenue exit and seek alternate routes while crews worked the scene.
Scene and Traffic Impacts
The Sheriff's Office sounded the alarm in its traffic alert, writing, "Traffic Alert: northbound I-35 at Continental DSO is working a fatality involving a pedestrian," and noting that all northbound traffic was being diverted to Continental while first responders and investigators stayed on scene. The post from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office indicated that lanes would remain closed while crews documented the crash and cleared the roadway.

The deadly incident takes place against a backdrop of Dallas’ push to cut traffic deaths through its Vision Zero strategy. The city saw fatal crashes drop significantly in 2025 compared with 2024, according to data compiled by the Dallas Observer. Even with those gains, serious crashes involving people on or near high-speed corridors like I-35 keep surfacing as a persistent risk. The Dallas Morning News recently reported a similar fatality on the interstate earlier this month.
Investigators remained at the scene into the morning hours. The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the victim and had not released additional details at the time of the post.
