A quiet stretch of road near 75th Avenue and Madison Street turned deadly before sunrise Saturday when 31-year-old Dajahnea Pollard was killed after her car collided with a semi-truck in Phoenix. She was pronounced dead at the scene as investigators worked for hours to document the wreckage and clear the roadway.
According to KTAR News, Phoenix police said Pollard was driving southbound when her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer. Officers and emergency crews were called to the intersection around 3:50 a.m. The crash remains under investigation, officials told the outlet.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Phoenix police and fire crews remained on scene through the morning, marking debris, taking measurements and securing the area for crash investigators. Authorities have not released any additional information about the semi-truck driver or whether charges could be considered. Detectives say they are still reviewing evidence and will provide updates as their work continues.
Traffic Safety in Arizona
State crash data highlights how risky overnight driving can be. Arizona recorded more than 1,300 traffic deaths in 2023, with speed and impairment among the leading contributing factors, according to ADOT. Officials regularly cite those trends when urging drivers to slow down, stay alert and take extra care on the roads after dark.
