An early-morning shooting just north of Uptown left one person seriously injured Tuesday, according to emergency responders, rattling a normally quiet stretch just as the city was waking up.
The gunfire was reported just before 5 a.m. near West Fifth Street and North Clarkson Street, close to an apartment complex, where first responders converged on the scene.
MEDIC crews found a victim at the location and took that person to a hospital with serious injuries, according to WCNC. The station reports that Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police were contacted and that authorities had not yet identified the victim. Police also had not released any suspect information, WCNC noted.
Where It Happened And The Response
The shooting site at West Fifth and North Clarkson sits near the northern edge of Uptown, in a cluster of apartment buildings and hotels. It is the latest in a string of violent incidents that pushed CMPD to expand its overnight enforcement effort, now operating full time as Queen City crime crackdown.
Investigators And Recent Pattern
Detectives have not announced any arrests and the investigation remains active. Earlier this year a separate Uptown shooting left one person dead, underscoring the district's recent spate of gun violence, as reported by WBTV.
WCNC said its reporters reached out to Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police for comment and that officials had not released further details by mid-morning. We will update this story when police or MEDIC provide more information.
