Last Thursday, a quiet stretch of the 8400 block of Quail Crest Drive in the Fort Bend area turned hectic when a small structure attached to a backyard fence caught fire and the flames spread into a nearby home. Houston Fire Department crews rushed in, carried out a primary search, and ventilated the house. No victims were found, and there were no reported injuries. About 50 personnel from multiple Houston Fire Department units worked the scene to contain the blaze and complete overhaul.
According to the Houston Fire Department, units from Stations 68, 75, 21, 28 and 46 responded to the call and knocked down the fire. A postal clerk on the block spotted smoke, alerted residents, and helped get attention on the growing blaze. CenterPoint was notified to secure utilities while crews handled ventilation and salvage operations. HFD teams also requested arson investigators to determine the cause and origin.
Arson Investigators Call the Fire Accidental
"HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause accidental," the Houston Fire Department reported after examining the burned fence structure and the damage to the home. Investigators were called in after crews found the small rear structure fully involved, with flames extending into the house. Firefighters then ventilated the residence and checked for fire extension into the attic and wall cavities before clearing the scene.

Neighbors and the postal clerk's quick action likely helped prevent injuries by grabbing residents' attention early, officials said.
