Anne Arundel County police are asking for the public's help tracking down a man they say walked up on a shopper in a Glen Burnie Walmart parking lot and punched him in the face on Monday evening. Investigators describe the attack as unprovoked, and the victim, an adult man, later reported the incident to detectives.
According to Fox Baltimore, officers responded around 7:20 p.m. last night to the Walmart in the 8100 block of Ritchie Highway after a call for an assault. The victim told police an unknown man came up from behind him in the parking lot and struck him in the face. Eastern District detectives have released a photo of a person of interest as they work to figure out who he is.
How police want tips
Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the released photo, or who can otherwise help identify him, to call the Eastern District at 410-222-3502, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. People who prefer to stay anonymous can use the county tip line at 410-222-4700. Police are also asking anyone with surveillance footage from the Walmart lot around the time of the assault to hold on to it and share it with investigators.
Parking lot trouble is nothing new here
The Walmart lot on Ritchie Highway has seen violence before, including separate stabbings that led to arrests, as WMAR2 News reported in past coverage. That history highlights how tough it can be for county detectives to untangle quick, chaotic encounters in busy retail parking areas.
Anyone who was at the Glen Burnie Walmart that night or has video from the lot is urged to contact Eastern District detectives at 410-222-3502 or the anonymous tip line at 410-222-4700. If there is immediate danger, call 911 and do not confront the person seen in the image released by police. Instead, preserve any potential evidence and pass it along to investigators. More details on the incident are available from the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
