What started as a routine look at a car parked at a red curb in San Jose today turned into a full-blown bust, after officers say they found a loaded, unserialized handgun tucked into the driver’s waistband and small packages of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine.
Police say a search of the driver and the vehicle turned up more than just the gun and drugs. Officers also reported finding a digital scale and a large amount of cash, and the driver was booked on weapons and narcotics charges.
According to the San Jose Police Department, officers conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle parked along a red curb and saw small packages that appeared to contain methamphetamine and cocaine. The department said a subsequent search uncovered the loaded unserialized handgun in the driver’s waistband, additional packaged narcotics, the digital scale, and the cash. The driver was taken to Santa Clara County Jail and booked on suspicion of possessing an illegal firearm and possessing narcotics for sale, the post states.

Officers' account of the stop
On X, the department wrote that officers “observed small packages containing suspected methamphetamine and cocaine” during their contact with the driver at the curb. A search that followed, the post said, turned up a loaded, unserialized firearm concealed in the driver’s waistband, as well as a digital scale and a large amount of cash.
Police did not provide additional details about the stop, including the driver’s identity or the exact time and location, but said the case remains under investigation.
Evidence seized and likely charges
The combination of individually packaged narcotics, a scale and significant cash is typically viewed by prosecutors as evidence of drug sales rather than simple possession. Under state law, possession of narcotics for sale can be charged as a felony.
Carrying a concealed firearm without authorization is governed by Penal Code 25400, while possession of methamphetamine for sale is prosecuted under Health and Safety Code 11378.
Local context
The bust continues a winter trend of San Jose traffic stops turning up guns alongside sizable meth hauls during proactive patrols. In February, a separate traffic stop that led to a pound-of-meth bust also produced a stolen firearm.
Police have not released further information about Sunday’s arrest. Anyone with additional details is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department through its non-emergency channels.
