Pie Tap Pizza, the Dallas-born pizzeria that slid into River Oaks in June 2025, quietly shuttered its Houston outpost Friday night, roughly nine months after opening. By the time weekend regulars showed up, the River Oaks storefront at the NOVEL was dark and the chain’s social media feeds were offering a brief farewell instead of happy-hour specials.

Pie Tap confirmed the closure in posts on Facebook and Instagram that read, "Houston, we are closing our doors. Thank you for all of your support, we'll be back soon," as reported by the Houston Chronicle. The company did not give a reason for the shutdown and did not return a request for comment, the Chronicle adds.

River Oaks Debut And Menu

The River Oaks location opened in June 2025 inside the NOVEL River Oaks and brought Pie Tap’s naturally fermented, Roman-style pies and rotisserie dishes to the neighborhood, according to Eater Houston. Pie Tap’s own site lists the Westheimer address along with the River Oaks menu, which featured the brand’s signature pizzas, rotisserie chicken and pastas.

Chain Footprint And What Comes Next

Pie Tap is operated by Reach Hospitality of Plano, and the chain runs multiple North Texas locations, with three in Dallas and single sites in Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano and McKinney, the Chronicle notes. Reach Hospitality also plans to bring another Dallas concept, The Mexican, to Houston's Uptown, per the Chronicle. Delivery platforms now reflect the River Oaks shutdown: the location is marked "Temporarily closed" on DoorDash, and reservations and ordering links are inactive for the storefront at the NOVEL.
