After a City Council vote this week, Palmdale has officially named Salvador “Sal” Mendez its next city manager, handing the city’s top job to a manager with a long track record in public works and project delivery. The vote capped a nationwide recruitment process that the council said prioritized operational experience and continuity.
In a press release, the City of Palmdale said the council approved Mendez’s appointment following a nationwide search and noted he served as city manager pro tem beginning March 2025 and as interim city manager since Sept. 2, 2025, pending contract and background completion, according to the City of Palmdale. “Palmdale residents deserve steady, accountable leadership, and Sal Mendez has demonstrated exactly that,” Mayor Eric Ohlsen said in the city’s announcement.
