San Diego is easing today, on the mild side, cloudy this midafternoon with temperatures near 57°F at Lindbergh Field, but bright sunshine is expected later and should push highs to about 70°F. Inland neighborhoods will warm up the quickest, while the immediate coast may hang onto a morning marine layer a bit longer.
Afternoon And Short-Term Outlook
Skies are expected to clear through late morning, setting up sunny conditions this afternoon with highs around 69–70°F and light southwest breezes near 0–10 mph. A system sliding in from the northwest will start to cool inland areas on Wednesday and bring stronger west-to-northwest winds from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Mountains and desert slopes could see gusts of 40–50 mph with isolated gusts up to 65 mph, and outer coastal waters may turn choppy or hazardous for small craft, according to the National Weather Service San Diego.
Weekend Preview
High pressure is expected to rebuild Friday into the weekend, bringing warmer afternoons and offshore east-to-northeast breezes along the coastal slopes. There is a slight chance of showers late Sunday into Monday if a low over Baja pulls in some moisture, so it is wise to keep outdoor plans flexible toward the end of the weekend.
Commute And Safety Tips
Plan for patchy coastal fog and lower visibility during the pre-dawn commute, and allow extra time for drives near the shore. Secure loose outdoor items ahead of the midweek winds, and avoid open-water boating from Wednesday night into Thursday if seas pick up. Be sure to check the marine forecast before heading out.
