San José police say a long-stalled homicide investigation has finally produced an arrest, closing in on a 2019 cold case that has lingered for years. The department quietly broke the news today in a short social media post, offering almost no public detail about how the break came or what led detectives back to the suspect.
According to San José Police Media Relations, a suspect is now in custody in connection with a homicide that occurred in 2019. The brief post did not identify the suspect or list any charges, and the department has not yet released a fuller statement or additional case information.

Police had previously asked for the public’s help in a 2019 fatal stabbing in East San Jose and released surveillance video in September 2025 in hopes of generating new leads, as reported by KTVU. Those reports said the attack took place on Oct. 6, 2019, and that the victim later died at a hospital.
Cold-case work driving arrests
San José detectives, working alongside the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Cold Case Unit, have increasingly turned to advanced DNA testing and forensic genealogy to breathe new life into stalled investigations. That approach recently led to an arrest in a 1997 cold case, underscoring how newer tools are reshaping old files, according to NBC Bay Area. Detectives say those techniques have helped uncover leads that were previously out of reach.
What’s next
The department has not said whether formal charges have been filed in the 2019 case, a step that typically follows once detectives submit their findings to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information connected to the 2019 homicide is still urged to contact SJPD’s Homicide Unit at (408) 277-5283, consistent with earlier public appeals. For the department’s initial announcement on the arrest, see San José Police Media Relations.
