Juan Ferrel-Gonzalez, 42, will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars after a Sonoma County judge yesterday sentenced him to 342 years to life in state prison. A jury had convicted him in December on 27 felony counts tied to the sexual assault of four children over roughly a decade, and prosecutors said all four victims took the stand to testify against him. The Sonoma County District Attorney's Office announced the sentence following the court hearing.
According to SFGATE, Ferrel-Gonzalez was found guilty of multiple sexual assault charges involving four minors and ordered to serve 342 years to life. The case began to unravel in 2018, when one victim disclosed the abuse to a school counselor. Investigators say that disclosure led them to identify three additional victims. Prosecutors reported that the children were between 8 and 16 years old when the assaults occurred between 2008 and 2018.
Prosecutor says punishment matches gravity of crimes
District Attorney Carla Rodriguez praised the jury and argued that the sentence fits the seriousness of the conduct, calling Ferrel-Gonzalez's behavior "deplorable actions," according to a statement from the DA's office. The office released that statement after the sentence was handed down at Sonoma County Superior Court. As noted by SFGATE, Rodriguez thanked the jurors for their service in a case that forced them to confront years of abuse testimony.
Part of a pattern of lengthy local sentences
The case is not an outlier in Sonoma County when it comes to punishing multi-victim child abuse. Prosecutors have recently pushed for similarly stacked terms. In early 2025, two men were sentenced to roughly 500 years and 485 years in prison after being convicted on dozens of counts, a sign that local prosecutors are frequently seeking maximum consecutive penalties in cases with multiple survivors. The earlier prosecutions and sentences were reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, which noted that officials in that case also highlighted the courage of victims who came forward.
