North Allen is getting a new spot for sit-down Mexican, as Agave & Ember Mexican Cuisine works toward a planned opening in May. The restaurant is billed as a higher-scale concept with a focus on made-from-scratch components, including house-made sauces, and an atmosphere that is meant to feel comfortable for families. It is one of the incoming food tenants in a newly built retail strip along West Exchange Parkway that is starting to fill out.
Speaking with WhatNow, co-owner Blanca Basinger said, “We’ll be making our own sauces,” and noted that the team brings years of hospitality experience to the project. She told the outlet that the name Agave & Ember is meant to evoke both the resilience of agave and the enduring passion of an ember. According to WhatNow, Basinger is aiming to have the restaurant ready for customers in May, pending permits and final build-out.
Where it will be
Agave & Ember is set to open in the Village at Allen Twin Creeks retail center at 960 W Exchange Parkway. A Crexi property listing describes the center’s newly constructed 2026 retail building and its tenant mix near the intersection of West Exchange Parkway and North Watters Road. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records for the address reference recent restaurant finish-outs and related new-construction work at the site.
Menu and vibe
Basinger says the team plans an elevated menu that avoids common canned shortcuts, with an emphasis on made-from-scratch sauces and house recipes. In her comments to WhatNow, she described the goal as creating a higher-scale Mexican restaurant where families can relax and share a meal. The owners say the chef intends to build a menu that reflects their Mexican culinary roots and differs from typical local offerings.
What this means for Allen
The arrival of Agave & Ember adds another restaurant to a small cluster of food and service businesses in the 2026-built center, which the Crexi listing notes already includes several complementary tenants. For diners in Allen and nearby suburbs, it could become an option for a more elevated Mexican meal compared with fast-casual chains. Before any soft opening, developers and the owners still need to finish permitting and tenant build-out at the space.
Basinger is targeting May for having the restaurant customer-ready, as long as permitting and construction stay on track, according to WhatNow. The owners say they plan to announce a formal soft-opening date and full menu closer to launch.
