Seattle woke up to a rare treat Sunday morning: clear skies, temperatures in the upper 30s, and just a light breeze. The sunshine is expected to hang on through the afternoon with highs in the low to mid 50s, but a stronger system is already lining up for Tuesday, so expect a wetter commute as the week wears on.
Afternoon And Monday
Mostly sunny skies should keep Sunday pleasant, with a high near 54°F and a light north wind around 5 to 6 mph. Monday looks a bit milder, with highs nudging into the upper 50s and only limited chances for rain before the next front starts to move in.
Fog, Then Rain Returns Tuesday
According to the National Weather Service Seattle, patchy morning fog could develop in lower spots, and a few valleys, including the Chehalis River Valley and parts of western Whatcom County, may see isolated freezing fog that could briefly make roads slick. The outlook also calls for overnight lows in the mid 30s and a stronger front arriving Tuesday, bringing widespread lowland rain and mountain snow around 4,000 to 5,000 feet. New rainfall amounts of about a tenth to a quarter of an inch are possible across the metro.
Out on the water, mariners should be ready for seas to build to around 7 feet Tuesday night into Wednesday and climb further later in the week. We first flagged this pattern shift in a Feb. 25 heads-up, and it is now lining up to deliver a classic late-season soggy stretch.
