Seguin staple Davila's BBQ is packing up nearly 70 years of family barbecue know-how and heading for Universal City, with plans to open in May at 316 Pat Booker Road. The new spot will serve the pit crew's mesquite-smoked brisket, ribs and signature beef sausage in a compact smokehouse that brings the Seguin favorite closer to San Antonio-area diners.
New outpost near San Antonio
"We don't want a big barbecue palace to start. I want to make really, really great food the Davila way," owner Adrian Davila told MySA. The outlet reports that the Universal City shop will take over the former Youz Guyz South Philly Cheesesteaks space on Pat Booker Road and is designed to help the family reach a wider market. Davila said the team plans to keep the menu centered on traditional family recipes instead of chasing a larger, flashier concept.
Where the space sits
The Pat Booker Road storefront has been up for grabs since Youz Guyz closed in early December 2025, according to Community Impact. The strip of restaurants along that stretch serves Universal City and surrounding neighborhoods, making it a straightforward landing spot for a regional barbecue name.
A Seguin institution
Davila's roots stretch back to 1959, when Raul Davila opened a barbecue stand that has since evolved into a multigenerational operation, the San Antonio Express-News reports. The original Seguin restaurant still serves customers at 418 W. Kingsbury St., according to the business website Davila's BBQ.
What to expect
The Universal City expansion follows a period of growth for the Davila family operation. The team already offers catering, runs a food truck, has stands at the Frost Bank Center and sells a signature barbecue rub at H‑E‑B, per MySA. For the new shop, Davila says the goal is to keep the menu tight and lean on the recipes that have defined the business for decades.
