A late-night drive near Shelby Farms turned deadly when a driver hit a man at an East Memphis intersection, then took off into the dark. The collision happened in the early hours of March 16 at Sycamore View Road and Shelby Oaks Drive. Officers responding around 2 a.m. found the pedestrian critically injured; he was later pronounced dead. The driver did not stay at the scene and remains at large.

The Memphis Police Department says officers were called to the intersection at about 2 a.m. Investigators believe the hit-and-run vehicle is a dark-colored 2020–2021 Honda Civic with noticeable damage to the front end, including the hood and windshield. According to police, the car was last seen heading northbound on Sycamore View Road.

The case drew wider attention this week when local TV outlet Action News 5 amplified the department’s alert and urged viewers to speak up. As Action News 5 reports, investigators say no arrests have been made.

What Investigators Are Asking the Public to Look For

Detectives are banking on someone recognizing the suspect car. The Civic is believed to have fresh front-end damage, including visible impact to the hood and windshield. Those details could stand out at a body shop, tow yard, or even in a neighbor’s driveway.

According to CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County, anyone with tips, dashcam footage, or surveillance video can call 901-528-CASH (2274). Callers may remain anonymous.

Possible Charges Under Tennessee Law

Leaving the scene of a crash is not just a bad look in Tennessee. It can be a felony if someone is hurt or killed. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 55-10-101, a driver who fails to stop when a wreck results in death can face felony charges, potential prison time, and loss of driving privileges.

Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name and say the probe is ongoing. Per the Memphis Police Department, anyone with video, photos, or other information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers or the department so detectives can follow up.
