Brooklyn’s open-air eating marathon is back on the calendar. Smorgasburg returns this April for its 16th season with one of its biggest lineups yet: 74 vendors spread across its weekend markets and 22 brand-new booths for anyone looking to eat their way around the globe without leaving the borough.
When and where
The season kicks off Saturday, April 4 at Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg, followed by the Prospect Park edition on Sunday, April 5 at Breeze Hill. Both markets are scheduled to run every week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October, according to Time Out.
New vendors and what they bring
This year’s incoming class features 22 newcomers, and nearly half are immigrant-founded or built on family recipes, Time Out reports. Smorgasburg CEO and owner Gaston Becherano called the vendors “the heartbeat of this market,” framing the event as a launchpad for small operators looking to test and grow their concepts in front of hungry crowds.
New vendors to watch
The fresh faces run the spectrum from icy desserts to serious live-fire grilling. Bingsoo will dish out Korean shaved ice, Chenzi will turn out chewy Fuzhounese potato dumplings from a multigenerational recipe, and Kolachi Rolls is bringing Karachi-style paratha wraps to the fold. Other additions include Madrina Vegana, Palenque Empanadas & Arepas and Palenque Parrilla Brasa, The Aborrajao, Nano Burger, Rogers Burgers and Humos BBQ, as listed by Smorgasburg. The 2024 class leans heavily into immigrant-rooted dishes while also expanding plant-based and trend-focused options.
Returning favorites
Veteran heavy hitters are back to hold down the fort. Longtime staples like Red Hook Lobster Pound, Raclette Street, Mao’s Bao and Yakitori Tatsu will share tent space with the newcomers, keeping the mix of classic and experimental that regulars expect. That blend usually means opening weekends get crowded fast, so early birds and line-averse eaters may want a game plan. The full slate was detailed by SecretNYC.
Plan ahead
On the Williamsburg waterfront, expect rotating lineups, outdoor seating and those postcard skyline views, along with the kind of lines that turn into social hour if you come with friends. Before you head out, check weekly vendor lists and the latest schedule on Smorgasburg, and look to the Breeze Hill event details from Prospect Park Alliance for directions and transit tips for the Sunday market.
