A routine welfare check in South Milwaukee turned into a grim discovery Thursday when officers found two people dead inside a home on the 1300 block of Manistique Avenue, authorities said. Inside the residence, police discovered a 22-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both appearing to have died from gunshot injuries. Officers had originally been called to check on the welfare of the 22-year-old before entering the home, and a firearm was recovered at the scene as detectives began processing the house as part of an active investigation, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
