
A routine school day at Sunland STEAM Academy in South Phoenix took a tense turn Wednesday when a student reported seeing a possible weapon on campus, prompting an immediate lockdown. Classrooms were secured, school leaders contacted Phoenix police, and officers swept the grounds while officials stressed that students remained safe during the investigation.
School staff quickly reached out to Phoenix police, and the campus stayed on lockdown as officers followed up on the report, according to 12News. The outlet reported that a news crew was headed to the scene while police continued their work.

In a statement to 12News, a Roosevelt School District representative said, “We appreciate the quick actions of the student who reported the concern, as well as the prompt response from our staff and law enforcement.” Roosevelt School District lists Sunland STEAM Academy as part of Roosevelt School District No. 66 and notes that it serves elementary grades in South Phoenix. Parents with questions were advised to contact the school directly.
